Available long-term opportunities:
The Activities Officer is responsible for arranging for official San Diego Mensa activities and coordinating with and advising the other Board members and the Editor of these activities. Although the RG is an official activity, the Activities Officer is given only a liaison relationship with the RG Chair, and thus does not have responsibility for the RG, except as one of seven members of the Board. The Activities Officer may appoint managers for any or all official activities except the RG. The Activities Officer shall encourage, stimulate, and assist members in holding activities. The Activities Officer maintains liaison between the Board and the following appointed officers: SIGs Coordinator and SIGHT Coordinator.
The Communications Officer is responsible for publicity, public relations, and ensuring that the newsletter, website, email blast, and social media for San Diego Mensa all work together, share the same general branding appearance, and contain relevant information for current members, prospective members, and the public. The Communications Officer maintains liaison between the Board and the following appointed officers: Editor, Email Blast Editor, Public Relations Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, Webmaster.
The Email Blast Editor uses Constant Contact software to send out weekly calendar updates and announcements to members who sign up for it through our Database Manager. The Communications Officer maintains liaison between the Board and the Email Blast Editor.
The Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for the creation of press releases and public social media posts, the gathering of media attention, and generation of appropriate recognition of the club. The Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for the promotion of a good public image of San Diego Mensa. The Communications Officer maintains liaison between the Board and the Public Relations Coordinator.
The RG Chair is responsible for determining the date and location of the RG, setting up a hotel contract and getting approval of the Regional Vice Chair (RVC) for said contract, getting approval of the Board to move forward with the date/time/pricing, posting on the San Diego Mensa website as well as setting up announcements on the AML website. The RG Chair recruits the following members of the RG Committee: Registration, Hospitality, Speakers, Volunteers, Audio/Visual, Hotel Liaison, and RG Treasurer. The RG Chair reports monthly to the Board on the status of profit/loss, registrants, and hotel details. The President maintains liaison between the Board and the RG Chair.
The Gifted Youth Coordinator monitors, fosters, and promotes programs for the benefit of gifted youth, both members and children of members. Such programs may be sponsored by Mensa, governmental agencies, or private organizations. San Diego Mensa has the right only to nominate a local Gifted Youth Coordinator. Appointment requires approval by the AML National Gifted Youth Program Coordinator. The Vice President maintains liaison between the Board and the Gifted Youth Coordinator.
