Where Intelligence Shines

About

Membership Benefits

Intelligent people join San Diego Mensa to make smart connections by networking with other intelligent people, both locally and nationally.

Some like participating in our social events, such as our twice-a-week lunches, weekend group biking, weekly Tuesday night bridge or monthly all-member parties. Others want to utilize the 800+ member strong professional network with our members representing a wide spectrum of professions, including stock brokerage, software development, teaching, writing, entrepreneurship, research, technology, web design, and many others. Our members also get access to American Mensa Mensa Works where Mensa members can post resumés and search for jobs at no cost.

We have more than 150 Special Interest Groups that allow members to pursue their interests—from astronomy to quilting—with other Mensans on a local, national or international basis. In addition to in-person meetings, we also exchange thoughts, chat with others and receive informal advice on electronic forums, such as Yahoo, Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn groups.

In addition to enjoying the camaraderie of a diverse group of highly intelligent people, San Diego Mensa members save on travel services, insurance, financial guidance, publications, and more through American Mensa benefit and service programs, with new benefits being added regularly.

How to Join

Joining is easy! Membership is open to people who demonstrate that their intelligence rating is in the top two percent of the population. If this intimidates you, look at it this way—in San Diego and Imperial counties alone, more than 62,000 people qualify for membership. Many smart people don’t realize that they qualify and haven’t considered membership. You’ve at least considered membership or you wouldn’t be reading this now.

So how do you join? It’s easy. You can become a member of San Diego and American Mensa in one of two ways:

If you are age 14 or older, you can take a supervised, standardized test with one of our certified member volunteers. To find out the next test date, time and location, click here or send an email to proctor@sandiegomensa.org

Anyone can submit evidence of prior testing in the form of scores from a supervised, standardized test, like the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale, the Miller Analogies Test, the GMAT or the LSAT. Qualifying GRE scores before September 2001 and qualifying SAT scores before January 1994 are also acceptable.

In either case, if you’ve scored in the top two percent, you’ll qualify for membership in San Diego Mensa. Then it’s just a matter of paying your annual dues!

Mensa for Kids

We have members who range in age from 3 to 105. Certainly, kids can qualify and join. Gifted children between 14 and 18 can take one of our supervised, standardized tests.
Email proctor@sandiegomensa.org for next test date and location. Those under 14 can submit evidence of prior testing. Learn more about what Mensa offers kids!
