The hotel shuttle will leave promptly at 3:00pm from the zoo. If you are not there, you will need to find another way back to the hotel.

There are many special experiences you can try, for an additional fee, Insider Tours, Animal Action Tours, VIP experiences and more.  https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/special-experiences

Fun facts:

  • The zoo has about 4,000 animals representing more than 800 species. A noteworthy feature of the zoo is its landscaping. More than 6,500 species of exotic plants are maintained on the grounds, adding atmosphere, and frequently providing an element of the natural diet for various animal species.
  • The San Diego Zoo initiated the world’s first successful koala conservation program.
  • The San Diego Zoo held the largest Panda collection outside of China. They are returning soon.
  • The San Diego Zoo pioneered the concept of cageless exhibits, replacing traditional cages with open-air enclosures and natural barriers. This approach allows animals to roam freely while providing visitors with an immersive and more authentic experience.

San Diego Zoo provides live animal cams on a variety of different animals – check it out here:  https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/live-cameras

Tour the USS Midway with a Mensan

10:00am-1:00pm – price $20

The USS Midway Museum is an authentic U.S. naval aircraft carrier built of steel with narrow passageways, heavy doors, low ceilings, elevated bases, steep stairways, and uneven surfaces. Exploring Midway involves walking through such areas. For your safety, we recommend watching your step and wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes. We also suggest wearing layered clothing as temperatures vary around the ship.
